Module 2:

Akhter (2015) states, “Distance education is a process of teaching in which a system of instruction is developed to teach pupils without having physical contact between instructor and learners” (p. 1). Distance education is basically teaching students from afar without being in the classroom with them for instruction. Distance education is becoming more and more popular and more people are beginning to hear about. I believe this is due to the amount of technology we now have in today’s time. Spector, Merrill, Elen, and Bishop state (2014), “The use of virtual/digital environments is increasingly prevalent as the availability of technology in K-12 schools increases through online forums, educational games, simulations, and integrated digital learning environments” (p. 93).

Rather than reading and hearing about the topic, use of technology can demonstrate and show all the information that may result in more “realistic” learning experience for the students. Also, Teacher can create instruction in order to develop instruction to using internet. As mentioned by Fallman, (2011), Internet can be used for tapping into primary information sources which have been made accessible on the web. Furthermore, to deliver information to mass people, Internet can be used as one effective way to communicate and give opportunity to the learners and teachers to collaborate with each other all around the world.

Though, the e-learning is becoming popular in educational sectors, its design is a bit concern to many learners.Clark and Mayer stated that; instructional methods that support rather than defeat human learning processes are an essential ingredient of all effective e-learning courseware. The e-learning have to promote collaboration ,the curriculum relevant and engage learning.

  1. Samuel,
I enjoyed reading your post this week for module two of the course. You made very good points about the internet and e-learning. One main point that I loved that you stated was that the internet is great for being used to give people the same opportunities around the world. This hits home to me because without the internet, I would not be able to be pursuing the graduate degree that I want from Liberty Online because no local schools offer it.

  2. I agree that the Internet makes it easier to do certain things for both teachers and students. A popular meme on social media talks about writing research papers and having to use books rather than a computer and the Internet. This is true because now I can write a research paper without ever stepping foot in an actual library. There are so many online resources that make it much easier to do things that weren't around 50 or even 20 years ago. Teaching has changed because of this. Online and distance learning have changed because of this. Not only can we do research now, we can contact people all over the world to have conversations. This has changed how we can learn and get information.

  3. Application of any learning theory is going to have long lasting affects on the learner and the outcome. It is realistic to use a learning theory in application to get a desired result and to research and understand how the student learns at different stages of development and apply those specific techniques is going to increase the students retention and motivation overall. I believe that collaboration is key, and in distance education this could not be more true. I like to have a physical book now and then, but lately I have been zooming through ebooks and able to take my reading anywhere offline. This change is making an impact on today's educators. I don't say the students because they where born into this era of technology. I believe teachers are the ones that need to train and understand the impact that technology has.

    Awesome post, great research!
